RGA carried out the ultrasonic flow measurement in the water adduction system of Central El Palmar at 5 points, among which it is worth mentioning:

  1. Australian tank discharge pipe (downstream of the pumping system manifold).
  2. Feed pipe from the Australian tank (well line 9-10A-13 and Trapichito).
  3. Feed pipe to boilers and factories.
  4. Factory supply line.

These measurements were made for 3 days as a reference to verify the installed instrumentation and verify the amount of water consumed by the different sections of the plant, as well as the level of the aquifer from where the fluid that feeds the sugar mill is taken.

As part of the service provided by RGA, during the construction of the CAVP Research and Development Laboratory Extraction System ( see more ), the extraction system that serves the building was commissioned, consisting of 3 extraction lines (Batch, oven and cabin) and the fresh air injection line. Based on the provisions of the COVENIN 2250:2000 standard, the following parameters were measured in the 4 fans:
  • Air flow and speed.
  • Air stream temperature.
  • Static pressure on the suction and discharge side of the extractor.
  • Extractor download speed.
  • Power consumption and voltage levels.
Additionally, the air distribution in all the ductwork of the different areas was characterized, and the on-site test (flow vs. static pressure) of the extractor that serves the Batch area was carried out, as it is the most critical. It was verified during the start-up of the extraction system that the flow rate reported in the measurement coincided with that required during the design phase by RGA, demonstrating once again the quality of the work, both at the engineering and execution level, of the company. .

RGA, as a specialist in the monitoring of forced extraction systems, was required to evaluate the performance of the organic vapor (solvent) and particulate extraction lines that serve two of its assembly lines, given that they had been  presented inconveniences in terms of occupational safety, and quality of the finished product. The monitoring service provided by RGA included the review of the entire extraction system, and the technical evaluation of the extractor, which consists of joint monitoring of the following parameters, in accordance with the provisions of the COVENIN 2250:2000 standard:
  • Air flow and speed.
  • Air stream temperature.
  • Static pressure on the suction and discharge side of the extractor.
  • Extractor download speed.
  • Power consumption and voltage levels.
Likewise, on the pollutant generation side, the following parameters were monitored:
  • Capture speed in bells.
  • Static pressure in hoods.
  • Flow.

RGA was hired to carry out the Ultrasonic Flow (USF) measurement of the purified water pumping system of Laboratorios Vargas, seeking to rule out the cause of system failure. A case very similar to the one found in the Central El Palmar sugar factory ( see more ).

The study was carried out on the stainless steel pipe, both in the discharge and inlet manifolds, of the pump that operates with speed variation for various scenarios, finding the cause of failure shortly after the equipment was installed. Once again, the expertise in RGA’s general services allows rapid, and low cost, obtaining of the causes of the problems that affect the industrial operation.

RGA was hired to carry out the design of the dust extraction system, going through the technical evaluation of the existing system and the redesign at the basic engineering level, in order to reduce the concentration of dust in the workstations of the extrusion areas. and hoppers, allowing in turn an increase in the efficiency of particulate recovery to reintroduce it into the production process, reducing the purchase costs of raw material. The activities developed were the following:
  1. Meeting with the maintenance coordination and prevention delegates of the company to define the current situation and determine the basic conception of the required system.
  2. Taking measurements in the field: air velocity, static pressure in the admission (vacuum), and current consumption of the existing extraction systems in hoppers and extrusion, in order to determine the operating point of the installed equipment.
  3. Collection and analysis of the information of the productive process: production reports, granulometry tests, mixture composition, original planimetry of the hopper and extrusion areas, as well as the construction details of the existing dust collector equipment.
  4. Design of the dust extraction system for the extrusion and hopper areas, including the recovery mechanism.
  5. Design of power and control electrical connection, as well as ladder control diagram with the modes of operation of the system.
  6. Economic evaluation of technical proposals.

RGA, after its successful study carried out on the extraction systems of the plant ( see project ), was required to monitor extruder blowers of  two  lines of transparent PVC sheets, with the intention of evaluating operational options to improve the product quality.

The monitoring service provided by RGA included the review of the entire installed system, as well as the technical evaluation of the blower, which consists of joint monitoring of the following parameters, in accordance with the provisions of the COVENIN 2250:2000 standard:

  • Air flow and speed.
  • Air stream temperature.
  • Power consumption and voltage levels.
  • Static pressure was not taken, as it was practically free discharge.

After taking the data in the field, an extensive report was developed with the main appreciable operational recommendations, both at the level of good practices and at the point of operation of the equipment, on the basis of which the client will make the corresponding technical decisions.
